The price of a parsnip
Looking back yet again as I try to decode and then convert kg. to lb. and CAD to USD, it's all a bit of a mystery. Suffice it to say that unless i was overcharged or i am not reading the receipt , I was charged $3.61 CAD for 1 parsnip that weighed 0.210kg @$6.59/kg. So that 's $3.30 a lb!!! but someone else will need to convert CAD to USD. So the parsnip weighed about 7.5 ozs in US money(imperial weight) . In summary i bought an 8 oz.pasnip that cost me $3.61CAD! I need to check this out and i will get back to you on this.
MEANWHILE, yesterday , i walked with a friend one my hosts ; she is from northern UK and so is her husband -Jane and Keith . They have a labdoddle or similar called Molly. We had a good walk of a trail i partially know and i went to their house for coffee. It was a lovely visit; our conversation covered the whole gambit across culture, life choices, travel, education and more. Jane and Keith have a very interesting collection of contemporary art work by regional artists. As the best kind of art patrons, their financial security was not seriously impacted through the outcome of Covid so they purchased art works locally to support the artists in the area. What a wonderful and generous way to contribute to others.
This story was in stark contrast to how so many of us feel right now as we feel the realistic sense of future USA. Remember the days in Kiev, Ukraine not so long ago when people continued with their daily lives because no-one could comprehend that the control was changing hands. Think on.
Soooooo- yesterday I walked the long way home to enjoy the water and sunshine, followed by sanding and then priming my canvas for the 3rd. time. Tomorrow (which is now Today) I will begin to paint.
My other thoughts have been with that tragic plane and helicopter crash in DC. I flew out of that airport just about 4 weeks ago !!! Reading about its location , its close proximity to major political locations and the helicopter traffic government personnel alone must create, makes one think about the choice of using this airport . It is a pretty significant hub for internal flights for American Air out of the DC area. Maybe this is too much weighty thought on stuff i can only be aware of but bear in mind.
Before I finish, i just read that Marianne Faithful has died. She was a large part of my radar screen as a teenager, discovering the world of pop music- the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Faithful was coupled with Jagger for a long time. My father could not begin to comprehend how their music was regarded as such.
There is some mention of forthcoming snow so i will need to stock up of vital things like onions and maybe wine.

Wine!! 😀🍷👍
ReplyDelete“Maybe wine” she says. You aren’t fooling anyone haha!

DeleteThe news is indeed heavy this week. And parsnips are expensive. Nerdy me just checked Walmart on line and a pound of parsnips costs $3.77 while Kroger is selling the same bag for $2.99. Loose parsnips at Whole Foods in C’ville are $2.49/lb and Giant is $2.99. Now you know!
