Photography
I am not very thorough about research and planning ahead for my adventures so its more " lets see what's out there " kind of thing. Anyway today was different. Today it was raining and cold and looked singularly uninviting to be outside so i decided to look for what i might do for a few hours this afternoon.
I could hardly believe what i found as i googled "what to do in Victoria " There at the Royal BC Museum was the National Geographic Wildlife Photography of the Year exhibition! This has been an annual event for Beth and I for several years for obvious reasons but we have always focussed on attending in London. This exhibition was here, in Victoria, just 30 minutes away and open Today!
I don't know if I wrote before about Sunday afternoons in Victoria. Yes i did because i mentioned the dragons of China and the really good sandwich at a lovely cafe. Well, Wendy brought me again today and she so kindly walked me almost all the way to the Royal British Columbia Museum before going to her class.!!
The museum was beside the inner harbour and next door to the splendid looking Empress Hotel but i walked past all of this, mainly because it was cold and raining
The Museum has a lots of things to see but i focussed on the photography exhibition which was excellent . The work is always fascinating and the young photographers in age groups 11-14 are always especially interesting . Of special note was the overall winner in this worldwide competition is from Victoria BC. . I had several favourites from the large selection of works and no way could i photo a prize photograph with my phone but here are a few that i especially liked.
poaching of ivory has improved detection because there is technology now that retains finger prints for longer
the demise of the monarch butterfly as captured though photojournalism showing deforestation that allows for more avocado growth

A Spectacular photography show! Thanks for sharing some of your favorites.
ReplyDeleteTadpoles! cool pictures
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you “found” this exhibition! It also sounds like you’ll be going back to spend more time in other parts of the museum.
