Neighbors !!!

Its been more than a week since i was on here, Which does not mean i forgot you but i might suggest that there was not much new to say . Until Today.

But first a brief report on the last week would mainly be about picking up a rental car to use for the next week or so. Friend Wendy dropped me of last sunday on the way to her art class and i was transported to being a driver instead of a walker snd rider. I.m  not sure if i had written about a bus day when I used the transit system to gat to my destination but than spent 4 hours walking progressively from one bus stop to the next , for a total of 4 miles. !! At each stop  where the bus route also changed, i would check on arrival times and each time the wait time was a minumin of 40  minutes. It's easy to figure that waiting is boring at best and walking is exercise at least. On that day I did walk at least 5 miles and it was not like a pleasant country stroll.

Then I had the car and that meant the wheels to adventure. My first journey was to Sooke ,which seemed to be at the end of a road on the west coast of the island . Once i got there i picked a coffee shop and lingered a while before feeling like i needed to feel confortable driving. This was my first glimpse past the points that spanned about 4 miles between the grocery store and the artpod. This was new territory !!! This was curvy and hilly roads through a forest landscape   and Sooke the small town with a grocery store and a few shops.

After that first  day with car, that has bells and whistles i don't know how to use like bluetooth and a large map on screen and probably even an on board toaster oven, i just make do with a power cord  to plug in my phone fir navigation and off I go . So far i don't know how to open the trunk!!! The weird aspect of renting a car ,is the I  feel compelled to drive it somewhere  everyday even though I don't need to go anywhere< Besides that the weather has been cold and wet most days this week. This shows that  apart from the sense of being in control of my schedule i chose what time to drive to figure drawing this week !.I arrived , i lingered and i even carried my own drawing paper pad because this week I could leave  it in "my car "  instead of prevailing on Roger and Glenda to look after it for me.

The life of janly in Metchosin !! and the weather was grey and the wet most of the week. But now it's Saturday and Lauren and Kieran will be here in less than 24 hours!!!

The last story of tis day is the arrival home after shopping and not even giving a thought to much i could carry in my bag as i had to with walking or riding the bus .   So I arrive and use the coded keypad to unlock the door as usual but  the lock went into crisis mode with a constant buzzing and unlocking itself in a way that i could not figure what was wrong. .

I had a quick look at the door system, and knew that the screwdriver was there for a reason as mentioned by the home owner . I guess i went into research   mode and tried to read the troubleshooter  pages that i had but decided to call Rachel the neighbor for help. . No answer but i left a message. Then i called  Iman another neighbor and left a message . Then I called Carlos on his cell and left a message . Then i called Werner and left a message. I did not call Jane because i know they are in Vietnam . So it seemed as it everyone on the "who to call in an emergency list" was away. However, in just a minute Werner arrived and so did Rachel. Rachel and WErner introduced each other. as  did she and i  introduced ourselves. before she  left Werner to help me.  Then in another minute Mojdelh arrived and he and Werner introduced each other. By this time WErner was going home to get tools and Mojedh suggested trying to access the batteries.in the door lock system. I found some in the basement . By the time the new batteries were installed and double checked all was good, with the door lock, Then  Carlos arrived and he and Mojedh introduced each other. What a glorious demonstration of neighborly support!! IF I had my wits about me I should have opened a bottle of wine and given a  Meet the Neighbors party !!All there kind people live within 4 minutes of each other but had never met.!! The common factor was my absent hosts!!!
what a great group of people  to have as neighbours.!. THis was a catalyst for introductions that's for sure . Now where is that Wine - but it needs to be Canadian !!!
