My rental car adventure

Well it was very special having Lauren and Kieran here for the days his spring break .
AS the photos show, the walks to the edge of the continent as here are such a pleasure and seeing Kieren searching the rock s for crabs was a delight .  
My added adventure on the day after Lolly left, i had decided to use the rental car another day before returning it. I had been wanting to visit a small coastal town named Duncan, known for the  totem poles  there. So up the road i trailed for about an hour on a mountain road not unlike rt 64 I in VA.but more mountain.  I reached a special  viewpoint that is called Malahat Summit, known of its fabulous views across peaks, valleys and water ways. As a good place to stop I decided on  here as the photos show how special it is . But the  story of my adventure stops there because as i was walking back to the car, I saw that i had a flat tyre . Okay-let's change the wheel! No spare wheel ! (Low end rental cars have such fragile jacks etc that rental company's remove all this from the car.) 
After phone calls  and 2 hours of waiting a tow truck arrives with the only choice of returning to the car rental office to switch out the car .  By this time, it was too late  in the day to restart my journey so I had to bite the bullet and deal with having  the car  an extra day, even though that was the first day of 48 hours non stop heavy rain . So me and that rental did not go anywhere .

this treasure is a Giant White Fawn Lilly - native and about 6" tall. stunning and so lovely to seethe growing on the cliff

This feels like Christmas

T oday, i rose earlier than usual because i needed to catch the bus at 8.30 to take me to Life Drawing session at Art Pod, Metchosin. The bus takes to me the door, pretty much , but i was 1 hour early . Problem solved because there is a coffee shop right across the road that also has real. tactile, newspapers to read.  T he news was of course  pretty grim :about all those pardons for people  insighted to storm the US capital that Trump instantly denied involvement. The  tariffs on Mexico, Canada and the rest of the world were mentioned as well as the concern about renaming Denali in Alaska . Denali means High Mountain or similar in First Nation speak.  so the connection is one that holds memory and significance.  At Life drawing  session, one very  thoughtful woman with strong connections  to the Art Pod, suggested I borrow an easel for 6 months . a relapsed blogger tries to make up for lost time.

  I note that it is 10 days since i last wrote on here and for the life of me cannot think of where the time has been used or what i have achieved.  I do know a few things ; i attended  a 2 day workshop on Icelandic embroidery; i have completed about 4-5 new drawings that  use materials not fully employed by me before; i have joined up with a group with whom I do outdoor sketching ; i have been doing figure drawing every week with a fabulous support group; I have walked on new ground and seen sand carving ; I have walked a bunch but not enough and i have really enjoyed finding the pleasures of reading after a long absence of several years.; I have booked my final days away from here for 2 nights next week . It has also been a tough time assimilating with life's challenges . So i hope i will post photos of some mentioned ,because even though I temporarily  occupy this tiny edge of British Columbia , everything i will mention more fully , took place with 2 miles o...

Canada, the Free and Canada the Brave

I am not exactly sure what inspired that heading that tries to be sentimental , but somehow it feels right. I have come to a new place in my sense of presence here  in this country . I am seeing just a tiny piece of one corner but I feel right about being here. In simple terms, there are a whole lot of enormous trees that are the landscape in this region and it feels as though each one is the voice of the people living here . Even though its a very easy thing to say, and of course i have not researched it beyond the end on of my arms, Canada is a country of quietly mindful people who are one of a seriously solid voice saying, "leave us alone" Surrounded by these magnificent old growth douglas fir trees  makes me feel reassured that planet earth can sustain and correct the mistakes and misguided choices of so many. I think that a frequent view of vast expanses of water, helps to  create a sense of endless calming assurance that the planet is in safe hands. That is to ...
